The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is collaborating with South Metro Area Regional Transit  (SMART) to support more reliable travel by using the highway shoulder for transit vehicles. This innovative "Bus on Shoulder" pilot project authorizes buses to use the shoulder in clearly marked areas when traffic drops below 35 mph on I-5 between the I-205 interchange and Elligsen Road.

Featured speakers included ODOT Director Kris Strickler, Wilsonville Mayor Julie Fitzgerald, Tualatin Mayor Frank Bubenik and SMART/Wilsonville’s representatives to Metro’s transportation committee, including Clackamas County Commissioner Paul Savas and Milwaukie City Council President Kathy Hyzy. SMART Director Dwight Brashear serves as event emcee.

After remarks and ribbon cutting at the Wilsonville Transit Center, attendees may take a test ride to Tualatin Park and Ride.

Because of an Executive Order issued by the President to prevent the transmission of COVID-19, masks are required at the event, even outside at the Transit Center.
