One Book, One Coast

Join LINCC libraries and be a part of the largest book club on the West Coast!

One Book, One Coast is a collaborative program uniting a wide network of West Coast libraries in a shared celebration of literacy, learning, community, and civil discourse. From April 1 through May 31, participating libraries will read and discuss They Called Us Enemy by George Takei.

Look for these special library programs in May supporting One Book, One Coast:

Friday, May 15: Film screening of Farewell to Manzanar (NR)
Learn about the personal experience of the Japanese internment camps at this free screening of the film Farewell to Manzanar, based on the memoir by Jeanne Wakatsuki. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, seven-year-old Jeanne Wakatsuki, her family and 11,000 other Americans of Japanese descent and their immigrant parents are imprisoned in the internment camp Manzanar in California. 3-5pm in the Oak Room.

Thursday, May 21: Japanese Tea Ceremony Demonstration
Experience the beauty and mindfulness of the traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony through a live demonstration led by a cultural practitioner. Learn about the history and philosophy behind this centuries-old tradition. 6-7:30pm in the Oak Room.

Saturday, May 30: Oregon Koto-Kai Performance
Local ensemble Oregon Koto-Kai performs traditional and modern musical pieces on the Japanese koto, a 13-stringed Japanese zither. 2-3pm in the Main Reading Area.
