City Council Approves Transit Fare Increases
The Wilsonville City Council voted 4-0 at the Sept. 17 meeting to approve an increase in SMART transit fares for destinations outside of Wilsonville. The fare increase is in concert with Salem-Keizer Transit District (“Cherriots”), which provides reciprocal services with SMART and has already enacted fare increases to cover increased fuel and service costs.

The fare for Route 1X -- Salem increases from $2.50 to $3 and a monthly pass on that route rises from $55 to $75. Route 2X -- Tualatin Park & Ride and Barbur Boulevard Transit Center and Route 3 -- Canby, go from $1.25 to $1.50 and a monthly pass on those routes increases from $30 to $35. Punch passes on the 2X and 3 routes will continue to be available, but the price will increase from $18 to $22.50 for 18 rides.

Out-of-town Dial-a-Ride service for elderly and disabled individuals goes from $2 to $3, with monthly Dial-a-Ride passes going from $40 to $50. Fares on Routes 2X, 3 and Dial-a-Ride services have not increased since 2006. Route 1X -- Salem last experienced a $.50 increase in 2008. The city limits of Wilsonville will remain a fare-free zone for both fixed routes and Dial-a-Ride.
