What are your Transportation Options?
For the SMART ART on the Bus contest, students are encouraged to think about all the different transportation options and how our choices affect our roads, our health and our community. Each year, over 200 local artists participate in this project. Students brainstorm different ways to get around, like riding a bike, walking, riding the bus, or sharing a ride with friends. They split into groups of 2-4 and translate their ideas into art.
Winners are picked by members of the Wilsonville business and residential community. It is a difficult task deciding which artwork is awarded a place of honor on the side of a SMART bus, as there are
always so many creative submissions. This year a new style was unveiled.
Five main winners were selected with their entire art showing along the side
of the bus, with the remaining design being filled with portions of many of the
artist submissions in collage style.
All of the students who participate in this project receive a "Great Artist Award"
ribbon for their outstanding effort. And each year, for the entire month of May,
the collection of SMART ART is on display at the Wilsonville Public Library,
located at 8200 SW Wilsonville Rd. For more information call 503-682-4523.
